One log when you drive for more than one app

Use several app labels on one shift, or save separate shifts in the same Log. Orphie does not detect app switches or split miles by app.

You can keep shifts for different gig apps in the same Orphie Log. Pick one app label or several before you start. The important limit is that a shift has one mileage total. Selecting Uber and DoorDash does not produce a separate mileage total for each platform.

Orphie is not released yet. This article explains the logging workflow that is built, including what the labels do and what they cannot tell you. There is no connection to your gig accounts, and Orphie never asks for their passwords.

Choose labels before you start

On the Drive screen, pick your vehicle and the apps you plan to drive for. The “Driving for” list supports more than one selection. Tap Start shift to begin GPS logging. Logging does not start just because you open a gig app or begin moving.

The app names are manual labels. They describe the shift you save, not information Orphie has checked with a platform. If you use another service or drive for your own business, you can add a name in Settings, under Apps. That custom label then appears in the driving list. Custom-app creation is in Settings, not in first-run setup.

For example, imagine a driver choosing Uber and DoorDash for an afternoon. This is an illustration, not a recorded customer’s day. Both names can stay on the shift while the driver works. Orphie logs the shift’s route and miles without needing a new shift every time the driver opens a different app.

Switching apps does not split the record

You can change the selected app labels through the profile line during a shift. That changes the shift’s overall app list. It does not save the time of the change, divide the route, or assign the miles before and after that moment to different apps.

This also matters when you read Taxes. Its by-app totals include the full shift under every selected app. A shift labeled with both Uber and DoorDash appears under both. Those totals overlap, so adding the app rows together is not a way to get unique business miles. Use the overall total for the logged mileage, and review the underlying shifts.

If you want distinct records for separate stretches of work, end and save one shift, then start another with the relevant label. Both records stay in the same Log. This records the separation you choose to make; it does not let Orphie decide how to allocate overlapping work. Keep any additional detail you need rather than assuming the labels provide a mile-by-mile split.

Pause for personal driving

Tap Pause before a personal drive, then Resume when you return to the work you intend to log. While paused, Orphie turns location off. It records no miles or route for that stretch, and the map leaves a gap. Orphie does not decide when an errand becomes personal or whether a commute qualifies.

Logging a drive does not make it deductible. Publication 463 explains business transportation and commuting rules. The standard mileage method also has eligibility requirements. Ask a tax professional about your own return.

When the shift is over, tap End shift, review it, then Save shift. End from an active recording can leave location running briefly, until the first of ten minutes or two continuous parked minutes. Save keeps the End-time snapshot and discards that extra stretch. End from Pause leaves location off. Do not treat End alone as an immediate location shutoff in every case.

Review what the labels leave out

Before saving, check the description, vehicle, and stop count. Add destination details and a note where needed. The app’s detected stops have no place names. Optional city names describe the endpoints only. That setting is off by default; if enabled, it sends the start and end locations to Apple or Google after End to look up city and state names.

For tax records, an app label is not the whole explanation. Publication 463, Table 5-1, lists business destination and purpose alongside mileage and dates. Review while the work is still clear to you. A weekly log accounting for the week’s use can be timely under Publication 463’s recordkeeping guidance.

Keep a copy you can share

The Taxes tab shares a PDF and CSV together for your tax preparer. Settings has a separate all-years export of your records. The CPA files do not include the separate note field or route coordinates; the all-record export includes those details.

There is no app-managed backup or restore yet. Save your exports somewhere you can keep them. Orphie also does not record earnings, tips, or expenses, so app labels cannot tell you which platform paid best. They help describe your mileage record. They do not turn it into an earnings report or decide your taxes.
